Cold weather does not always mean waiting for spring. It does mean checking whether the slab and the garage can meet the requirements for the whole coating system.
Both Coats Need the Right Conditions
Our standard garage system uses an epoxy moisture vapor barrier base and a polyaspartic topcoat. Each product has its own application and cure limits. The slab must stay at or above 60°F during installation and initial cure, or warmer if the selected products require it. Air temperature alone does not tell us whether the concrete is ready.
What a Winter Install Requires
We check slab temperature, moisture, humidity, and dew point before coating. The slab must stay at least 5°F above the dew point, or the greater margin specified by the manufacturer. We confirm suitable conditions and timing for your floor before scheduling the installation.
In warm conditions, plan on about 24 hours before foot traffic and about 72 hours before parking after the topcoat. Cooler conditions need longer. Full cure takes about 7 days, or longer in cool conditions or when the selected products require it. Follow the timeline and Floor Care Sheet supplied for your installation.
Protect Your Floor Before Winter Wear
Road salt and snowmelt can damage bare concrete. A properly installed coating makes cleanup easier. Remove standing water, wipe up spills promptly, rinse off road salt, and avoid de-icers containing magnesium chloride. See our road-salt care guide.
